Cute skull shirt

I know I've already done a tutorial on this, but I couldn't help making more and blogging about it! I figured Emma needed a little more flair to her wardrobe. I have so many white onsies for her, and they're all so plain! So I decided to spice them up a bit.

What you'll need:
A tshirt
Freezer paper
Xacto Knife (I used a box cutter)
Iron
Fabric paint
Paintbrush
Ribbon (optional)

Find an image online. I googled "cartoon skull" and came up with a couple cute options. So I decided to make TWO shirts.
Copy your image onto the papery side of your freezer paper. I did this by holding it up to the monitor and lightly tracing.
Cut out your image, making sure not to stray from the lines. You need the outer part of the freezer paper to use as your stencil.
Once you have the outer part cut out, you can use scissors to cut out the inside of the image (eyes, mouth, ect).
Get your iron heated up, and lay out the pieces of freezer paper onto your shirt. Make sure they're exactly where you'd like them, because one you iron them on, that's where they're staying!
Take your iron and press down onto the freezer paper. You don't want to iron like you normally would, it may tear up the edges of the freezer paper. Press down and gently wiggle the iron back and forth until the freezer paper is bonded to the shirt and there are no bubbles underneath. It should only take a couple seconds of ironing.
Now that your freezer paper is on the shirt, it's time to start painting! As long as you ironed it properly, you shouldn't have any bleeding issues. Paint your design on and wait for it to dry. Apply a second coat if needed. I ended up doing a layer of sparkle paint on top of it. It came out in the washer, but it was cute for the first time she wore it!

Once your paint is 100% dry, you can peel up the freezer paper and see your work! I added a couple bows to mine for cuteness factor. I love the way they turned out!

  2. That is sooooo cute! I found some washable glitter that you just sprinkle on top of the wet paint and it lasts for quite a while. It was with the fabric paint at Michaels, I think. Thanks for sharing!!

  4. Very very cute, have you tried Tulip glitter fabric paint? My daughter did some painting on pants with some and it's withstood the repeated washing.
